It was a warm early summer afternoon and I was looking for something to do with my cousin who was only in town for the evening. She was trying to save money after returning from an expensive vacation and I was trying to save money because, well..life just requires that you do so. I scrolled through some Facebook events and found a free COUPONING CLASS!
It's lit. Can you say #winning?
Not only was this something to do to spend time with my cousin but it was also a great way to learn more skills to save even more money!! Stone, meet these two birds.
So this was really great for me but how does this benefit you?
I had you in mind while I was there and took notes to share. Yes, I know. You're welcome.
Major Couponing Keys
Buy on sale while couponing - coupons alone are great but they are even better when the item is on sale. sale + coupon = more money saved
PRICE CHECK ONLINE!!! - the item may be listed for a lower price online. Check to see if the online price will be honored.
Use social media to your advantage - follow brands you love on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They sometimes post coupons not advertised anywhere else.
Use an app - My personal fave is Ibotta. Ibotta gives you rebates deposited into an account that you can easily access. It's free. So there's that on that. (New to Ibotta? Need a referral CODE? J4VKA- get started here)
Bulk isn't always better- sometimes the smaller size gives you a better deal with your coupon. Do a little math on your shopping trip!
Stack!- Use manufacturer coupons with store coupons for the same item to get serious savings. Be sure to check store coupon policies to see what is allowed
The day you shop matters - Many stores offer days where they double coupons. You can save twice as much on items you have coupons for.
Sales Cycle - This one was huge for me. Learn when items are at their lowest price. Buy then and buy enough to last until the next time the price is that low.
Buy before you need it- don't pay for convenience. You'll definitely pay more at the corner store up the street.
*Pro Tip* Use the money you have saved on groceries toward another financial goal. Pay off a loan a little faster. Put away more money in your emergency fund. Save it for that vacation you really want to take.
